Instead, I depend on my extensive cross-media design experience. I rely on a solid strategy to build upon. I bank on my ability to work ahead of the trends. And I trust in my gift to question everything.

Honestly, I think the band, Boston, pretty much summed up my approach to design: “It’s more than a feeling.”

That's what I try to do every day. To create clean, inventive and usable designs, on the web and in print. I currently work at Colossal Squid in Chicago, but I'm always game for a side project or two. Holla at me and we'll discuss.

WriteMinds: Logo & Site Concepts

For some time now, my friends (Clay, Eric, Ryan, Will, and Robbie) and I have been working on an exciting project. One of the many reasons I got into the design field was to create. Not just create compelling designs but to solve creative problems.

WriteMinds is our answer to the problem: “How can we make writing on a computer easier and…awesome-er?” “After a good long think, a bunch of meetings around a table in an office we no longer have, and a whole heck of a lot of calls, we came up with a different sort of thing, correcting a smaller problem: it sorta sucks to write on a computer. I’ve tried Scrivener, Writeroom, Ommwriter, Microsoft Word, Pages, Textedit, and others, and none of them really made sense. They all either did too much or not enough. And with Google Wave and Basecamp around, the collaboration thing is/will be nailed” (Clay Parker Jones).

So now that we have gotten the funding out of the way and the development underway, we’re ready to start talking about it. Below is a glimpse into all that WriteMinds is and what you can expect to see. From the logo to the homepage, the designs are coming along nicely and am very excited to get it all finished. The new logo was designed around the idea of “write outside the box.” The site design was focusing around the idea behind the product. “Make it easy. Make it awesome.  Make a simple writing app.” Also, tried to relate the traditional writing process to the digital space by using a paper texture background and using a serif font for copy.So that’s about it for now. Don’t want to share too much right now. Would love to know what you think. And of course, stay tuned for more.
